Blue Ridge Relay (5.6-SEP-08) : More smelly times in the mountains of Western NC, tracking the progress of a victorious Trailhead team, as they swept all aside, much like a gorilla in a forklift truck casting aside confused lemurs.

Little River Trail Race III (12-JAN-08) : It's ... Little River Trail race III. Excellent conditions, new course records, occasional falls, and a baroque battle between giant mechanical dinosaurs. Some of that, anyway...
81 pix are now labelled with Runner Name (number). All photos are now uploaded, I think. I'll try to get the labelling completed over the MLK day weekend.

See Wingnut's gallery for even more Little River pictures.

Blue Ridge Relay 2007 : Hurrah for the 3rd running of the Blue Ridge Relay, a 210-mile wander from Grayson Highlands Park, VA, to Asheville, NC. This gallery charts the Happy Fun Times of the Trailheads team, who left the trails temporarily behind for 27.5 hours of sitting in a van, stinking.

Carrboro 50k (6-JAN-07) : Possibly the last running of the Carrboro 50k, as the Bolin Creek woods through which it runs are due to be 'developed' (i.e., destroyed) by UNC Chapel Hill. This year, the course consisted of two 25k laps, as opposed to the 4 shorter laps in previous years.

Colorado Outward Bound Relay (8-9 SEP 06) : The Colorado Outward Bound relay is a 170-mile continuous race from Idaho Springs to Glenwood Springs, over a series of gnarly mountain passes.

A group of fools from the lowlands of Central NC rose to the challenge: Teams Rockin' the Rockies and Rollin' the Rockies of Millstriders running club brought the heady scent of Okra, Cornbread and desparation to the Western hills. It was a successful jaunt, with the teams scoring 43rd and 44th places out of 133 finishers.

Jay Mountain Marathon (29-JUL-06) : The Jay Mountain Marathon is part of a 3-day paddling, running and mountain biking challenge (Jay Mountain Marathon) that takes place - oddly enough - around Jay, VT. The 'marathon' is a 32-mile / 5000' ascent jaunt over a wide variety of increasingly stupid terrain, such as forest tracks, swamps, mud holes, rivers, endless fields, overhanging cliff faces. Not so much a run as a stagger, stumble and bumble.

Several Trailheads and Millstriders made the trip from Chapel Hill, NC, to get their arses sorely whipped by the course. Pain is good!

As well as a mixture of running pix, there are a few shots of the start of the bike event.

Gribdale Gallop 2006 (11-JUL-06) : A very small collection of shots from the Gribdale Gallop (7.5 M, 1400' of ascent) in the North Yorkshire Moors, England. My first UK fell race for quite some time, given that I've been living over t' pond in sweaty North Carolina. It was good to be out dodging the black pudding and whippets once again. Mind you, I did manage to get lost for a couple of minutes and had a terrible time decending anything technical - I have grown SOFT on OKRA and other Southern Delicacies.

The race was also notable in that it was my brother's first ever race ... a gentle start for a part-time runner, eh...? Indeed, most of the photos are of the bro's first (and last?) fell assault.

Full results and more photos are available from North Yorkshire Moors AC. I managed a 56'40 and 20th place (out of 85) which was not great, but if I hadn't got lost things would have been much cheerier. My brother snagged 79th place in 1:17'11 which is a sterling effort for a true novice.

Owl's Roost Rumble 2006 (29-APR-06) : Yay for the 2006 Owl's Roost Rumble, a jolly 13.1 mile jaunt around Lake Brandt, Greensboro, NC. The Trailheads were there in great quantity - races were run, beers were quaffed, testicles were grilled (really!) and a good time was had by all.

Official race photographs are elsewhere.

Powerman North Carolina 2006 (23-APR-06) : A few random pix from the Powerman duathlon in Chapel Hill, NC where I happened to be standing on a street corner and waving ineffectually at runners. First few images are of people I know, the rest are random collections of random people, randomly arranged. There are no images whatsoever of bikes. I mean, who cares about bikes?

I think there was an official photographer from Brightroom, for your official photographic desires.

Little River 9-mile Trail Race (14-JAN-06) : The inaugral running of the Little River trail race, Little River State Park, Near Durham, NC. (Inaugral is an adjective meaning 'in a wobbly fashion'). This was the first ever race put on by the Trailheads. Yay!

If you see yourself in one of these photos and would like to buy a 9 foot wide print via Smugmug, then I can upload a larger file - leave a comment. Note that there are no pictures whatsoever of participants in the 5k race.

(17-JAN-06): There are maybe 20 more photos that might appear in this gallery in the next week or so, if they get through Total Quality Assurance (aka the approval of my cat, Offal Breath).
